Not One but Two Big Lottery Wins for Missouri Couple

Not One but Two Big Lottery Wins for Missouri Couple

Whoever said lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice has clearly never met Marilyn and Jimmie Lovelace – a lucky married couple from Farmington in Missouri. Back in 2007, the duo made the headlines for landing a significant sum of more than $3.7million by playing Powerball; fast forward 12 years and the pair have hit the news again and yes, you’ve guessed it, they’ve won on the Powerball again!

Unfortunately, the drawing for September 4th saw Marilyn and Jimmie match just four of the five white ball numbers drawn plus the Powerball, and this meant narrowly missing out on the multi-million-dollar jackpot, but they still walk away with $50,000. That’s two lottery wins for the happily married pair.

The lucky numbers drawn were 4, 8, 30, 52, 59 and Powerball 2. Lovelace’s missed out by the number 8 – I bet they were kicking themselves. The Powerball draw for Wednesday is estimated at $50,000,000.

Young Michigan Couple Who Won $500,000 on the Lottery Charged with String of Burglaries

Young Michigan Couple Who Won $500,000 on the Lottery Charged with String of Burglaries

Just three years after scooping $500,000 on the lottery, a young couple from Michigan have hit the headlines again, only this time, the pair have been arrested with a string of burglaries in and around Michigan. Stephanie Harvell and Mitchell Arnswald are accused of a series of robberies carried out in broad daylight over five counties and it the robberies went on for a period of two months.

A local couple winning half a million dollars

The pair have come a long way since the heart-warming story of a local couple winning half a million dollars on the very day they received an eviction notice; “I cried like a bay when I saw what I’d won, I still can’t believe it.” Harvell said back in 2016. Revealing how her and her husband and their two daughters had been living paycheck to paycheck, the then 25-year old had huge plans for her new-found wealth, only I bet they didn’t involve being arrested for theft three years later.

Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham told local news outlets that the couple were arrested for roughly twelve burglaries within 60-days, but it’s believed the couple could have committed many, many more than this. Local authorities are working together to determine how many thefts took place and aim to get to the bottom of it. Troy added; “We believe they could be responsible for more than what we know of.”

In 2016, Harvell planned to buy a new house, a car and start college funds for her two daughters but this has not gone to plan.

More Than 2,721,820,552 Winners Since EuroMillions Launched – But What Was the Biggest Win?

More Than 2,721,820,552 Winners Since EuroMillions Launched – But What Was the Biggest Win?

There have been many lucky people who have beat the odds to come up with a win on the EuroMillions, billions of winners to be precise, but what have been the largest wins? The biggest win ever recorded with back on 10th August 2012 when a former UK postman scooped €190,000,000 after the jackpot rolled over a total of 14 times! The big win had an impact on him, and his wife and the pair divorced 15-months after his life-changing win.

EuroMillions Super draw

€190,000,000 was also won in Portugal on 24th October 2014 when the EuroMillions Super draw was won after five consecutive roll overs. The mystery winner became the biggest joint winner in the lottery’s history.

€190,000,000 seems to be a lucky number because another player scooped this exact same sum on 15th September 2017. Five rollovers came to an end when a lucky ticket holder in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria scooped the jackpot prize to become the country’s 83rd jackpot winner.

One Hundred and Eighties

12th July 2011, Chris and Colin Weir found their names on the UK’s Sunday Time Rich list when they won €185m. The retired television cameraman and his psychiatric nurse wife donated cash to several charities since their win, set up charitable trusts and much more. Before the dip in the exchange rate, their win remains the biggest ever won in the UK; the win of €185m became £161m after the conversion rates were taking into mind. Compare that to the €190m in Spain and this comes in at £148m in sterling, that’s £10m less with the conversion rate.

Two winners from France and one from Spain split €183m on 3rd February 2006 and took home €61m each.

Friday 17th November 2006, a total of twenty ticket holders shared €183m, because the then win-cap on rollovers meant if the jackpot wasn’t won, the prize would be shared between the winners on the next tier. Seven ticket holders in the UK, four in Spain, three in Portugal and in Spain, two in Ireland and one in Belgium took home €9.6m each.

Will you be the next big EuroMillions lottery winner? You can’t win unless you’re in and with tickets only costing €2.50 per play, it’s hardly going to break the bank. All you need to do is match five main numbers from 1 to 50 and two lucky stars from 1 to 12 to win!

First Lotto Ticket Purchase Led to £120,000 Win for One Lucky Teen

First Lotto Ticket Purchase Led to £120,000 Win for One Lucky Teen

Did you know, the odds of winning the lottery in the UK are so stacked against you that you’re 35 times more likely to be murdered? As gruesome as it sounds, you actually have more chance of being murdered ten-times over than landing the jackpot, but this doesn’t see to phase the players. This week, one lucky teen decided to purchase his first ever lotto ticket and he’d doubly glad he did, because he only went and won £120,000 on the Set for Life draw on 12th August.

The lucky 19-year old from Leamington bought a lucky dip ticket for the draw and even went into work the following day, believing his ticket was a non-winner. Speaking to local media, Sam Lawton revealed that his mother is a little miffed at his win, because she’s never won and has been playing since it started.

“I think my mum has played the lottery since it started. I spoke to my sister and apparently mum had seen there were four winners and she was fuming that she wasn’t one of them. But then she found out that I was! I rang her in Tesco and she was at the checkout and she just broke down on the phone to me.”

Shocked Win

Reiving the moment they found out about the huge win, Connie revealed:

“He came downstairs because he had entered on the lottery app and said ‘Connie can you check this for me because I don’t really understand what’s going on’ and I said to Sam ‘there is no way you have won that amount. I’m putting that out there now. Let’s just find another way around this because I think you have got this wrong’.”

The pair were not convinced on the win so rang her brother for advice and he confirmed the numbers back to them, but they also rang the National Lottery;

“I started work at 8am, called The National Lottery Hotline to check if I had won, and by 8:45am I was on my way home as a winner. My head was spinning, I needed to see Connie.” Said Sam.

The lucky Data Analyst lives with his partner; Connie Bell and their son Noah. The prize won will now see him receive a total of 12 payments of £10,000 – that’s £10,000 a month for a whole year! Plans have already been made; a trip to New York and a deposit for a house – not bad! Connie added her comments on her partners new-found-fortune:

“Obviously with us being young as well it has always been ‘what will the future hold for us’ because we are still only renting. Knowing that we will have a place that will be our home and will always be our home just feels amazing. It takes away a lot of those worries because we will always have somewhere to go.”

Are You the Lucky Winner of Saturday’s $128m Powerball Draw? Find Out Here

Are You the Lucky Winner of Saturday’s $128m Powerball Draw? Find Out Here

The Powerball draw for Saturday 10th August had a staggering jackpot prize of $128m up for grabs – but was it won? Sadly, there were no winners of the jackpot which means the jackpot will increase from $128m to $138m for Wednesday’s drawing. That’s a lot of cash to win, but how much would it be after the usual tax deductions and winners opting for the cash settlement (other than the jackpot instalments)?

If Saturday’s $128m was won, the winner would have bagged $86.1m in cash. If someone manages to land the top prize on Wednesday, the cash lump sum take home would be $96m.

The winning numbers from Saturday were:

35, 41, 44, 58 and 59 – Powerball: 3 – Power Play: 3x

Despite the top prize not being won, there was one lucky winner in Elizabethon who managed to scoop $150,000 for matching four main numbers with the Powerball. The ticket was purchased at J&2 Market at 409 Johnson Avenue, so if you purchased a ticket here, go check your numbers!

Wednesday’s Powerball Jackpot Has Just Increased to $88 Million!

Wednesday’s Powerball Jackpot Has Just Increased to $88 Million!

The Powerball jackpot has been increased to $88m for Wednesday’s draw, after it was revealed nobody managed to scoop the Powerball jackpot from Saturday’s drawing. The numbers from the previous draw were 1, 19, 31, 48, 61 and the Powerball number was 6 with Power Play 2x. There were no jackpot winners, no Match 5 + Power Play winners but there were 3 lucky winners of the Match 5 option, each scooping a cool $1,000,000 each!

Ready to win the Powerball?

Regardless of how few people play the Powerball, the starting jackpot is $40 million, which may not seem like much, but did you know that if you stacked this amount of money into $100 dollar bills, it would would reach the height of the Smithsonian Institution building in Washington DC! Those stacked $100 bills would reach a phenomenal peak of 145ft! Wednesday’s Drawing would see those stacked bills reach new heights; almost to the top of the Statue of Liberty!

There were many winners of smaller prizes from Saturday’s draw:

  • 251,279 of the 0/5 + Power Ball $4 prize
  • 106,748 of the 1/5 + Power Ball $4 prize
  • 13,738 of the 2/5 + Power Ball $7 prize
  • 16,402 of the 3/5 $7 prize
  • 656 of the 3/5 + Power Ball $100 prize
  • 244 of the 4/5 $100 prize
  • 15 of the 4/5 + Power Ball $50,000 prize
  • 3 of the 5/5 $1,000,000 prize

What Would You Choose?

If you’re a lucky Powerball jackpot winner, the first decision you will face as a multi-millionaire is how to have your winnings in this lottery. You can either select the prize as an annuity or a lump-sum payment; the former is larger whilst the latter is smaller! If you choose the annuity option, you’re guaranteed to receive 30 graduated payments over the next 29 years. So, based on Wednesdays estimated jackpot, you would receive roughly $3,000,000 a year, which would be divided into 30 payments for each year; that’s $100,000 each payment!

Or, you can choose the lump sum which will then be subjected to taxes; 25%. Which would be around $22,000,000, but you may be subjected to other taxes depending on the state. Cash value is estimated to be somewhere in the region of $57.4 million!

$36.7m Powerball Prize Claimed in Victoria

$36.7m Powerball Prize Claimed in Victoria

In a surprising turn of events, the $36.7m Powerball jackpot has now been claimed, thanks to lottery officials releasing the name of the outlet in where the ticket worth $36.7m was sold. Usually, this process isn’t required, but because they had no way of contacting the winner, they needed to get into the press to alert the unbeknownst winner!

After revealing the Powerball division one-winning ticket was sold at Mid-Town Lotto in Gisborne, in country Victoria, a young Macedon Ranges family have stepped forward to claim the huge life-changing sum of money and have begun “fantasising about the future”.

After lottery officials confirming to the young couple that they had in fact won $36.7m – and being the last of the winning ticket holders from last week’s draw, the winners who are described as an ‘everyday couple’ were stunned, before dissolving into hysterical laughter.

The Call

(Woman caller told she has won $36.7m) “Say it again!”

“Umm, yeah! I have no words!” added the man.

“We checked our entry yesterday. We just kept looking at the numbers. I was saying ‘the numbers are not in the same order as the computer’ so I wasn’t sure if the order mattered or not and whether we’d really won,” stated the woman.

After revealing he often only purchased Powerball tickets when the prize started to soar, the man said: “I’ve been playing with the dream that one day I might win division two or something like that. This is just a bit more than that! “It’s mind-blowing. It’s life-altering. It means I can give my family everything they need. It’s amazing! It really is.”

Gob-Smacked

Mid-Town Lotto owner John Kelly said it was his first division one winning entry he has sold. “My staff will be thrilled when I tell them as they’ve put in such a big effort this week. It’s been so busy leading up to the Powerball draw. I’m sure we’ll be busy in the coming days as people check their tickets. We can’t wait to deliver the news to one of our customers.”

Despite the lotto win not yet sinking in, the mother of two has claimed she will not be giving up her job; “I love my job in medical research so won’t be giving that up but I do hope to use the money in a meaningful way. We’ve got two kids so this will go a long way to setting them up for the future.”

The Other Winner

A young man from Adelaide is also $36.7m richer after this same drawing, but he wishes to remain anonymous, but he did release a statement through lottery officials on what he plans to do with his new found fortune.

“I would love to take my family on a holiday. I’m not sure where exactly I’ll be going but I think a round-the-world trip might be on the cards. In fact, we could even do it first class. I’ll also pay off my family’s mortgages and donate heaps to charity. I might quit my job,” he said.

“I don’t know, I’m still in shock. I just can’t wait to get off the phone so I can call my family and tell them the news. I don’t know if they’ll even believe me.”

Winning Powerball Ticket worth $198 Million was Bought in Hendersonville, Tennessee

Winning Powerball Ticket worth $198 Million was Bought in Hendersonville, Tennessee

If you’re a resident of Hendersonville in Tennessee, the chances are that you could be a little richer this week – $198 million richer to be exact! One lucky resident has bagged a staggering and life-changing sum of money by simply choosing six numbers and a Power ball number in Saturday’s draw. There are mixed reactions on the street, from congratulations messages to “I hope it’s not one of the people with a $3 million home on the lake.”

The numbers pulled on Saturday 13th July were 13, 23, 32, 35, 68 and the Powerball 21 and the winner, whoever he or she may be, will become the seventh winner from the state to win the Powerball jackpot, according to the Tennessee Lottery. The winner is advised to sign the back of the ticket and to store it in a secure location before consulting with a financial advisor on what to do with the winnings. When they’re reading to float down from cloud 9, they’re also advised to call the Lottery’s Nashville headquarters to claim their new found fortune.

If you live in Tennessee, check your tickets because you only have 180 days to claim the prize. Wil you choose the annuity payments or go for the cash lump sum? After the usual taxes and deductions, the one-off payment would be $128 million, which is not to be sneezed at!

More Powerball lottery News

Winning life-changing cash can be a dream come true for most, but it can also be a nightmare for others; especially for a former Powerball jackpot winner from Florida. 90-year old Gloria Mackenzie has sued her son and his financial advisors, claiming the lottery winnings were ploughed into poor investments. After winning the $590 million jackpot in 2013, Gloria took home roughly $278 million, which made her the largest solo lottery winner in American history, but in a lawsuit filed in 2018, she details how she gave half her winnings to her son Scott, after claiming he would take care of her for the rest of his life.

The financial advisor sought by her son Scott, was Harry “Hank” Madden, co-host of a radio show called “Smart Money” and principal and COO of Madden Inc, but he had never managed funds of this magnitude before yet charged $2,000,000 in fees despite earning a return of less than 1%. Gloria suffered damages of more than $10,000,000 as a result of poor choices by her financial advisor, but her lawsuit was dismissed twice by a judge, but they have returned a third time with amendments.

It has since been revealed that Scott has kicked his mother out of his home and she is now  seeking help from family; what with being elderly and needing someone to look after her and her interests.

$30m Lotto Winner from Perth Losses Entire Fortune on Bad Investments – But That’s Just the Start!

$30m Lotto Winner from Perth Losses Entire Fortune on Bad Investments – But That’s Just the Start!

Sherif Girgis hit the headlines back in 2007 when he scooped what was Western Australia’s biggest lotto prize of AU$30 million. At the time, the 23-year old took the advice of a trusted real estate agent and placed his winnings into a series of investments, all of which have gone less than expected, resulting in him losing the equivalent to £17 million.

Mr Poliwka is the City of Joondalup deputy mayor and was a prominent real estate agent used to managing a fortune, so naturally, Sherif was only too happy to take his advice, advice which he wishes he had never taken. After meeting the real estate agent at the 2012 Grand Prix, Sherif went out and bought a huge 80ft Catamaran.

Purchases included a pub, a luxury charter boat, a nightclub and lock of land with waterfront views. The pub turned out to be a thirsty venue, as Sherif sunk more than AU$1.3m into transforming the pub, but it lost an eye-watering AU$1m over a 3-year period. All investments had flopped resulting in a penniless ex-millionaire. The former cinema worker launched legal action against his real estate agent in 2014, citing Mr Poliwka engaged in “misleading or deceptive conduct in trade or commerce”. The legal document also claimed Mr Poliwka had committed a “breach of a duty to exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence” through his investment advice.

The judge ruled in the ex-lotto winners favour, but despite winning his case at the Supreme Court, Russell Poliwka, the real estate agent, will only need to pay back AU$2m – which is substantially less than the AU$30m Sherif was hoping for.

At the Supreme Court, Justice John Vaughan said:

“Mr Poliwka operated as a sounding board for Mr Girgis and was involved in decision making for Mr Girgis. Mr Girgis looked to Mr Poliwka for advice and deferred to and acted on Mr Poliwka’s representations and advice. Reasonable reliance on Mr Poliwka’s misleading or deceptive representation, and on Mr Poliwka’s negligent advice, has been established.”

EuroMillions Fraudster Strikes Again Plus News on How EuroMillions is Changing

EuroMillions Fraudster Strikes Again Plus News on How EuroMillions is Changing

This July, EuroMillions is changing. National Lottery bosses have announced some huge changed to EuroMillions, which will come into effect in July and this means more money will go to the causes that need it most. Every time you play a National Lottery game, you help the charity support a series of good causes and projects. The amount of money awarded to these causes will depend on a number of variable factors, this includes the proportion of ticket sales that is made available to pay out prizes before proceeds are then passed on to the charities. For every ticket purchased at a cost of £2.50p, 85p is allocated to the UK Millionaire maker game. A percentage of the total value of UK Millionaire Maker entries is then made available to pay the game’s prizes. To date, 42% of that 85p Millionaire Maker stake, goes towards the prize money, but from 14th July 2019, that percentage will fall to 30% – whilst this means a dip in percentage, it means more money will go into the Big Lotto fund, but this doesn’t affect your chances of winning.

EuroMillions Fraudster Struck Once Again

A conman from Birmingham, England, has struck again having first made the headlines for claiming he had won £123 million on the EuroMillions. The trickster swindled thousands of pounds from a shopworker on the back of his claim, promising to repay her generosity with a huge £500,000 slice of his new found fortune. The money was needed for his mother open-heart surgery back home in Pakistan, but he didn’t win the lottery, didn’t need to save his mother and didn’t pay back the cash.

Now he’s stooped lower than before. In his latest scam, the fake EuroMillions winner said his mother’s heart surgery did not go to plan, which meant she passed away, so he needed money for her funeral. But he had a new victim in his sights for his latest scam; a Birmingham city HR worker named Sanjita who believed his plight and parted with £900, on the premise of receive £200,000 from a new £1,000,000 lotto win – this guy is extremely luck with the lottery, right?

Thirty-year old Sanjita is too embarrassed to contact police because she believes nothing will be done. Speaking to a local media outlet, Sanjita said:

“It’s the hope that really got me. He was telling me my life had changed forever, he was telling me to give up my job. The hope really kicked it out of me. If I’d listened to him, I could be homeless now. I was telling him my background, and we kind of clicked. He seemed a genuine person. Looking back, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. My head was all over the place, I was fasting.”

 She concluded with:

“He should receive an Oscar for the performance he gave. As a Muslim, I was brought-up to believe in charity and helping others. He threw that in my face.”

Mega Millions Lottery Winner Ordered to Give Half His $80m Win to His Ex-Wife Despite 2-Year Split!

Mega Millions Lottery Winner Ordered to Give Half His $80m Win to His Ex-Wife Despite 2-Year Split!

Richard ‘Dick’ Zelasko could be labelled both lucky and unlucky; after bagging an $80,000,000 Mega Millions lottery win, but his new-found fortune has led to a messy divorce battle and a ruling which didn’t exactly go in his favour. In 2004, Dick married Mary Beth and spent seven long-years with her and during this time, he fathered three children with her. Sometime in 2011, the couple split and filed for divorce but almost two whole years later, Dick scooped an $80m fortune.

He may have been apart from his estranged wife for more than 24 months, but this didn’t stop the Michigan court ruling in favour of Mary Beth and this then led to a letter landing on the desk of Dick’s attorney; Scott G Bassett, ordering that Dick must pay Mary Beth $15,000,000. How can one man be so lucky and unlucky at the same time? The arbitrator in the divorce case; John Mills stated that the divorce was not yet final and that determined that the lottery winnings were ‘part of the martial estate’ – but how? They’d been apart for two years! John Mills based his assumptions on one thing; Dick probably bought lottery tickets when he was still married to her and living with her, which is really rather strange.

Don’t Argue!

Scott argued in court that “Rich was lucky, but it was his luck, not Mary’s, that produced the lottery proceeds” by John Mills was having none of it. Rightly so, Dick was surprised and extremely baffled by the ruling and has instructed his attorney to appeal at the Court of Appeals and if reconsiderations are denied, they tend to take the appeals all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court.

“An equal split of an asset acquired so long after separation, and in this case after the conclusion of the divorce arbitration hearing, is extremely unusual. We believe the arbitrator violated controlling Michigan law when he awarded Mrs. Zelasko half of the $30 million net lottery proceeds.”

There are people who would side with both parties in this case, but one comment left on the news report really struck a chord with people, it read; “During those two years of separation whilst the divorce was in full swing, if Dick had accumulated debit of $80,000,000 – would half that debt be his wife’s? No, it wouldn’t, so why should half of his winnings be half hers?”

$344 Million Powerball Winner Revealed to Be Laughing North Carolina Resident

$344 Million Powerball Winner Revealed to Be Laughing North Carolina Resident

On 1st June, the lucky numbers for the Powerball draw worth $344m were drawn, but it has taken almost two weeks for the winner of that fortune to step forward. A 66-year old north-Carolina resident; Jackson Jr, came forward to claim his prize money and revealed that he thought he’d only won $50,000. A while after the draw, the retired store owner discovered he had only gone and won the whole pot of $344 million – the largest sum of money ever won on a single ticket.

But it wasn’t all eyes on the prize winner at the check-handing over ceremony. Jackson Jr stood before the cameras ready to answer questions on his new found wealth, when all of a sudden, he burst into laughter. Behind the Powerball winner stood a young woman in a Powerball outfit, dancing as he spoke which captured everyone’s attention – and not only those in the room. Twitter users couldn’t get enough of her waving her hands and dancing in celebration. “Female employee of the year” one Twitter user joked. Another tweeted; “The girl in the background waving her inflated hands is hilarious!” Not long after this, a third response came in; “I wanna know what’s going through the mind of that woman in the background”

“This is an amazing ad for the NC Powerball. I must have watched it all the way thru like 6 times. I have no idea what the man in the video looks or sounds like. ‘Keep waving your hands and smiling like you don’t regret your life choices!!!'” another Twitter user joked.

Hidden Fortune

Amid all the smiles and laughter, Jackson Jr spoke about how he won, stating he found the numbers the back of the piece of paper inside a fortune cookie. It was given to him by his granddaughter, according to CNBC – naturally, he never expected much to come of the choice. “You play to win, but you never really expect to win the whole dang pot,” Jackson Jr. said.

When he realized he had won the huge sum of $344 million, he called his wife and told her “You ain’t going to believe this — I got it all.”

According to CNBC, Jackson Jr has decided to take the cash lump sum, which will mean he loses almost $121m in taxes, but he still takes home a hefty sum of $223.3 million. Financial experts often advise lottery winners to opt for the cash lump sum route as opposed to the multi-year annuity payments option. Once they’ve collected the cash, it should be invested wisely to make it last – but however he decides to spend it, $233.3 million is sure to last a hell of a long time! The Powerball winner insists the win won’t change him; “It probably won’t change much,” he said. “I mean, let me put it this way, I will still wear jeans. But I will probably buy some new ones.”
